St. Francis of Assisi Prison Ministry is part of a larger program offered by the Colwell Detention Center called Rescued. The men (8-12 per class) are assigned a dog to care for groom train and lover for the 10-weeks of the program. People come from United Community Bank, N. Georgia College, Georgia Best, Cold Nose College, a groomer, Union County ANimal Hospital to help them.
Our program, Problem Solving through Spirituality, consists of viewing a short video that is inspired by the teachings of Jesus. We have a handout with questions related to the video we discuss. Some of the topics are anger, forgiveness, prayer, character, GOd's love etc. We pray with them and encourage them to pray. We also give them Bibles if they want one and a Jesus Calling daily devotional.
We keep our team small(5) so they can get to know us and we them. We also try to inspire trust that our discussions are private and won't be shared with prison staff.
