St. Francis of Assis Prison Ministry is a part of a larger program offered by the Colwell Detention Center called Rescued. The men (8-12 per class) are assigned a dog to care for, groom, train, and love for the 10 weeks of the program. People come from the United Community Bank, N. Georgia College, Georgia Best Cold Nose College, a groomer, and Union County ANimal Hospital to help them.
Our program, Problem Solving through Spirituality, consists of viewing a short video that is inspired by the teachings of Jesus. We have handouts with questions related to the video we discuss. Some of the topis are anger, forgiveness prayer character, God's love, etc. We pray with them and encourage them to pray. we also give them Bibles if they wanted one and Jesus Calling Daily devotional.
We keep our team small (5) so they can get to know us, and we them. We also try to inspire trust that our discussions are private and won't be shared with the prison staff.
